Christmas in McLaren Vale has its own kind of magic. Instead of rushing crowds and shopping centre chaos, you get vineyard views, warm evenings, local markets and that easy country pace that makes you finally exhale.
McLaren Vale Cabin Caravan Park is a relaxed base for the whole Fleurieu Peninsula. Whether you are here for a short Christmas break, visiting family, or escaping the city for a few days, there is plenty to see and do without needing to drive far.
What’s on around McLaren Vale and the Fleurieu
All through December, the region fills up with Christmas events – from twilight markets to winery concerts and creative workshops.
In and around McLaren Vale you’ll often find:
Christmas concerts in the vines, like special evening events at local wineries such as Coriole and Beach Road, combining live music, great food and sunset views over the vineyards.
Festive markets in nearby Willunga, with local makers, produce, gifts and plenty of Christmas treats.
Hands-on workshops where you can make your own Christmas decorations, wreaths or gifts at local art spaces such as Fleurieu Arthouse and other creative studios.
Across the wider Fleurieu Peninsula, December usually brings a whole calendar of community celebrations, including Christmas pageants, carols and family nights in towns like Victor Harbor, Willunga, Goolwa and Myponga.
Event details change each year, so we always recommend checking current listings and local council pages before you head out, but you can expect a good mix of family-friendly, low-stress Christmas fun within a short drive of the park.
An easy train ride into Adelaide for Christmas in the city
If you feel like a “big city Christmas” for a day, it is very easy to do from McLaren Vale.
From the park, it is a short drive to Seaford Railway Station. From there you can jump on the Seaford line train, which runs regularly into Adelaide Railway Station via Noarlunga Centre and the inner southern suburbs.
Once you arrive in the CBD, you can step straight out into festive city life. Each year, the City of Adelaide rolls out a Christmas program that usually includes:
A giant Christmas tree and decorations in Victoria Square/Tarntanyangga and throughout the city streets
Free or low-cost events such as the Adelaide Town Hall Christmas concert and sing-along, featuring choirs and bands performing classic carols
Rundle Mall Christmas displays, buskers and extended shopping hours
For families who love Christmas lights, there are also dedicated “Christmas lights trails” covering the suburbs, with maps and lists of the best displays to visit at night.
You get the benefit of all the big-city sparkle, without having to stay in town – just hop back on the train, collect your car at Seaford and be back at your site or cabin in time to put your feet up.
Festive days, quiet nights back at the park
After a busy day exploring, the best part is coming “home” to a quieter base.
At McLaren Vale Cabin Caravan Park you can:
Relax under the trees with a glass of local wine and a cheese platter from one of the nearby cellar doors
Enjoy easy meals with local produce – think fresh bakery treats, olives, smallgoods and takeaway from the many food options around McLaren Vale
Spend unhurried time with family, playing cards, chatting outside the van or simply enjoying the peace
If you are staying over Christmas or New Year, keep an eye on our noticeboard and Facebook page for any simple park activities or informal get-togethers that might be happening during your stay.
